For years, I’ve had a really strong passion for missions. Whether it was an actual mission trip to another country or mission in my job whilst singing in a school. As I was growing up, my parents were missionaries….and still are. So I was constantly surrounded by that lifestyle, and I loved it. It was so fascinating hearing all their stories of what they did in different cultures and the way God came through for them everytime. What’s funny is that up until I was about 16, I always said that I’d NEVER be a missionary. I didn’t want that lifestyle, I was very happy just settling in one place and getting a good job that paid well. But God’s got a sense of humor, and a different plan! haha. Somehow He changed my heart, and started giving me these desires to travel the world and see lives changed. My first mission trip was to Honduras when I was 17 with a team my own age from a nearby school. I had been asked to choreograph a hip-hop dance to a Spanish song and teach it to the group, and then go with them and dance. I absolutely loved it! What an incredible trip. Then that same year, I went to Switzerland with OM (Operation Mobilization–the mission organization my parents work for). This was also using dance on the streets to draw a crowd and then tell them about God. This really sparked my heart for missions.

The year after those trips was when I joined tbc. I didn’t do ‘mission trips’ whilst in the band, but we were doing mission of a different sort, and I still was able to travel lots which I LOVED!! The summer at the end of tbc, I went with OM again on another mission trip. This trip was called Transform 2010 and was based in the Mediterranean. Hundreds gathered together for an equipping and preparing conference in Rome, Italy before heading out to all the countries in the Med. I went to Morocco, Spain, Italy and Portugal. In Portugal I was once again leading a dance outreach team…using dance on the streets to communicate Gods love. This year I will be doing it again….leading a dance team to do the same thing, evangelize through music and dance. In April of this year, I will also be going on another mission trip with OM which I am very excited about. I don’t think mission has to be going to a really deprived country, or any foreign country really. Yes, God calls us to go to the ends of the earth but ALSO He wants us to go just down our street, to our neighbor. That mission is just as vital as traveling all the way around the world! But God has put desires on my heart for the nations, and He is now opening up the doors for me to be able to go to the nations proclaiming His good news in a relevant and exciting way….through the gifts He has given me.
